Hardwood floors

An investment for many generations
Maintenance Guide

Maintenance of Plancher 440's hardwood floors is simple and fast. Hardwood floors are tough and are susceptible to only two things: water and scratches.

Prevent any kind of splash on your floors

Use a humidifier or dehumidifier to regulate the humidity in your home between 37% and 45%.

Never let any liquid dry on the floor.

For cleaning, use a wet rag or mop. Avoid poor quality mops which leave alot of water on the floor.

For persistent stains, apply a small amount of cleaning solution directly on the stain. Leave for 2 to 3 minutes then scrub vigorously.

Never wax Planchers 440's aluminum oxide finished foors.

Place a rug in front of the kitchen sink to prevent splashes.

Preventing scratches

Common sense dictates favorable behavior.

Remember the following:

Protect the finish of your floor against abrasives by sweeping or vacuuming regularly, especially prior to mopping.

It is best to sweep towards the boards of the floor.

Use felt pads under the feet of your furniture.

Place carpets at all entrance doors to prevent dust and sand from contacting the floor. Shake or vaccum them regularly.

When moving heavy furniture, place it on a piece of carpet or a thick blanket, and then drag it.

Make sure to always keep the heels of your shoes in good condition.

Always remember that the soles of shoes are likely to retain little stones that could damage your floor.

In order to replace a board without having to sand and varnish it, make two saw cuts in the center of your board in a longitudinal direction. You can then easily remove the core and tips and replace it.
